COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

General Dynamics Electric Boat and the Navy are integral parts of every community across eastern Connecticut, where they are the largest employers, particularly in Groton.

But their reach extends across the state of Connecticut as well, through a submarine manufacturing supply chain that includes more than 350 companies large and small. Additionally there are thousands more companies across the country involved in submarine construction and supply chain support.

These two economic drivers have provided family-supporting careers for generations.

It is common to hear of grandfathers and granddaughters, aunts and nephews who work at EB or as civilians at the Base, or are here because of the Navy.

It’s as if EB and the Base are part of the extended family – many, many families!

And that extended family includes community organizations and non-profits that benefit from generous donations of both time and treasure from EB and the Navy.

What has evolved over the generations is a symbiotic relationship, whereby communities also provide support for these anchor employers serving the nation’s defense industry.

Community leaders across the region make key decisions regarding schools, housing, infrastructure improvements, workforce training, public safety, and more with the needs of Navy families and EB’s workforce top of mind.

All of these relationships – economic, social, education, infrastructure – define our larger community of submarine builders!
